Books Worth Reading

Books Worth Reading, Teaching, and Revisiting

A little corner of ELA Inkwell for the books that stay with you.

Essential Books for the High School English Classroom, from ELA Inkwell's Literary Life bookshop
Temporary banner while I build the permanent ELA Inkwell version of The Literary Life.

Books have always been at the center of my English classroom. Some are worth teaching because they open up difficult conversations. Some are worth returning to because they reveal something new every time you read them. And some simply deserve a place on a teacher's bookshelf.

This page is a starting point for the books I recommend, the titles I use or return to in the classroom, and the reading lists I think are worth sharing with other English teachers.

The full collection lives at The Literary Life, my Bookshop.org storefront, where you can browse the books and lists I've put together. Bookshop.org's mission is to support local, independent bookstores, so it is one way to make online book buying work a little more in favor of independent booksellers.

The Literary Life uses Bookshop.org links. Bookshop.org is an online bookstore designed to support local, independent bookstores.
